Casablanca or Rabat for living: choose around your daily life

Casablanca or Rabat for living? Compare your workplace, actual journeys, housing and complete budget to choose a Moroccan city that fits your everyday needs.

Practical guides

Casablanca or Rabat for living? Prefer the city that connects your home to regular activities at an affordable overall cost. If work or study fixes your destination, start there; if you can choose, compare two actual homes rather than two reputations.

You might like the idea of one city and find a more suitable apartment in the other. That is a useful discovery. Your choice needs to work on a Tuesday morning as well as at the weekend. The aim is to identify your better fit, rather than declare one city the winner for everyone.

Start with the places you need to reach

Write down your workplace, campus, recurring appointments and people you want to see regularly. A job described as being in Casablanca or Rabat is not enough: a different office address could change the decision.

Our guides to living in Casablanca and living in Rabat provide local context. Here, prioritise weekly commitments. We prefer a home that works with those commitments over a city chosen only for its image.

Compare networks, then check your own journey

The official Casatramway and Casabusway lines page lists T1 to T4 and BW1/BW2. The Rabat-Salé tram schedules describe that network. Checked on 10 October 2026, these sources help plan journeys; they do not measure travel from your door.

Include walking, waiting, connections and the return at your usual time. A station near home does not necessarily serve your destination. If you plan to live in one city and work in the other, check the intercity journey and both end sections too, without relying on an old timetable or a generic fare.

Replace “cheaper” with a complete calculation

Compare listings with similar space and equipment. Add rent, known charges, transport and recurring expenses. Keep the deposit, moving and initial equipment separate. Our pages on Casablanca advertised rents and Rabat advertised rents explain why listings are not an average of completed rental agreements.

Fictional example: home A at 5,000 DH rent, 300 DH charges and 400 DH transport totals 5,700 DH for those items. Home B at 4,700 DH rent, 300 DH charges and 900 DH transport totals 5,900 DH. These are illustrative figures, not Casablanca or Rabat prices. A rent saving can disappear in the journey.

Visit as if it were an ordinary week

Visit at the times that matter to you. Check accessible shops, noticeable noise, lighting, entrances and household needs. These observations do not produce a city safety ranking; each street and neighbourhood needs its own assessment.

BienLibre’s planned direct owner-to-renter approach aims to preserve your budget and support clear conversations with owners. Direct contact still requires a visit and a clear agreement. Continue with comparing cities before moving, then choosing a neighbourhood. The decision remains yours, based on your priorities.

Before choosing your city

  • Activity address confirmed
  • Two comparable homes
  • Outbound and return journeys checked
  • Monthly budget separate from move-in costs
  • Visits matched to your schedule
