To compare two cities before moving, examine the same life plan in each: comparable housing, income, journeys and household needs. Record what is confirmed and what remains unknown. Choose the compromise that respects your priorities rather than adding arbitrary scores for the “best city.”
You may be choosing between a city with relatives and another that appears to offer more opportunities. Pros and cons help, but only when they describe the same daily life. Comparing a studio in one city with a family apartment in the other distorts the decision from the start.
Describe the same project on both sides
Write down the household, necessary bedrooms, intended duration and essential equipment. Observe advertisements and fares around the same date. If income changes with the city, use confirmed income in each scenario rather than comparing expenses alone.
Where to live in Morocco helps shortlist cities. Here, the task is to choose between two finalists. Different compromises are acceptable if you name them: smaller housing, longer travel or equipment to buy. An acknowledged difference is more useful than a supposedly perfect comparison.
Gather evidence suited to each question
Sources answer different questions. The HCP national household survey for 2022–2023 documents consumption within its scope; it does not establish which city will be cheaper for you today. An advertisement describes an asking price, not the whole market.
For journeys, compare addresses with the relevant network: the official Casablanca map and official Rabat-Salé map are two examples. A map shows routes, whereas testing at your times shows your experience. Keep those forms of evidence distinct.
| Criterion | City A | City B |
|---|---|---|
| Available income | Confirmed amount and stability | Same information to confirm |
| Housing | Comparable home, rent and charges | Same needs and duration |
| Journeys | Tested route and cost | Tested route and cost |
| Household | School, health, relatives and services | Same needs to examine |
| Settling in | Move-in cash and equipment | Initial costs kept separate |
| Unknowns | Decisive unchecked points | Decisive unchecked points |
Do not enter zero for missing information. An unknown cost is not free, and missing safety data proves neither danger nor peace of mind. Establish what can be confirmed and acknowledge what remains uncertain.
Calculate without inventing a ranking
Entirely fictional example: city A requires 6,000 MAD of monthly spending for 8,000 MAD available income; city B requires 5,400 MAD for 7,000 MAD income. Their remaining amounts are 2,000 MAD and 1,600 MAD respectively. Lower spending therefore does not mean more money left. These are not budgets for any Moroccan city.
Add move-in costs separately, then consider time, fatigue and support from relatives without assigning artificial monetary values. You can use “essential,” “desirable” and “flexible” instead of marking every criterion out of ten. An appealing total cannot compensate for an unmet essential need.
Organize a check before deciding
Plan a visit with the same questions in both cities: morning journey, shopping, building access and services. Read living in Casablanca and living in Rabat if those are your options, then Casablanca’s monthly budget and Rabat’s. Otherwise keep the method and gather evidence for your own destinations.
We recommend resolving unknowns that could undermine the move before comparing pleasant extras. You remain free to choose family proximity, an opportunity or another setting even when it is not the cheapest option.
Can your comparison support a decision?
- Same project compared around similar dates
- Income and charges distinguished in each scenario
- Unknowns recorded without assigning zero
- Journeys and essential needs checked
- Compromise explained to everyone involved
The direct-contact model presented by BienLibre can support a manageable-budget approach, but does not replace these checks and is not yet an open catalogue. When the choice becomes concrete, continue with the rental steps and moving preparation.
